NVBLQ – National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification
What is NVBLQ?
Surf Life Saving Association Wales (SLSA Wales), RLSS, and SLS GB have agreed to to offer a qulification which sets a commom standard for beach lifeguarding and satisfies the requirements specified by lifeguard service operators.
The qualification will be delivered and awarded by SLSA Wales. Endorsed by International Life Saving Federation, National Water Safety Forum Beach Advisory Group and the RNLI
WEEK LONG COURSE – 5 DAYS – £330
2024 Dates
- Week commencing 8th April – Start time 10am
- Week commencing 13th May – Start time 10am
- Week commencing 21st October – Start time 10am
UPDATE COURSE – 3 DAYS – £250
Important: Must hold a current NVBLQ or Equivalent which has not expired.

- Starting 15th May – 10am
- Starting 23rd October – 10am
PRE – REQUISITES
- Be at least 16 years of age on the date of assessment
- Be able to swim 400m in under 8 minutes
- Be able to complete a 200m beach run in under 40 secs
SYLLABUS
- Foundation lifeguard knowledge and skills
- Foundation surf competence and knowledge
- Foundation rescue board competence and knowledge
- Foundation rescue tube competence and knowledge
- Surf Lifeguard Fitness Test
- Adult and child and infant Basic Life Support
- Aquatic First Aid
COURSE
40 hours Training – 5 days with the assessment on the 5th day. A full week’s training with required evening work.
COST
£330 – includes SLSA Wales membership, Certification and all literature needed or £250 for update.
